Inspiration Guide

As long as you are here to trust the process, we believe it’s our job to take you as you are (whether you have absolutely no ideas or have a million disjointed pins on Pinterest), and find YOUR original, meaningful, beautiful wedding aesthetic, and translate that into paper art.

So breathe, because even if all you bring to the Design Call is yourself and an open mind, that is amazing. Perfect, even.

But if you do want to come to us with some ideas or inspiration, that’s great too. But here’s a guide for what inspiration is helpful, and what isn’t – as well as a few ideas for unexpected ways you can get inspiration. (Again, gathering inspo is totally optional! But if you’re wanting to be more hands on, keep reading!)

Sending Us Other Designers’ Stationery

When it’s NOT helpful:

  • If you only send us one invitation suite (we don’t copy other people’s work)
  • If you only send us one designer’s work (because that just tells us you want us to copy their style – another thing we don’t do. Inspiration is okay, but if you really like another artist, maybe you should book them instead!)

The bottom line is that in order to make it inspiration vs. copying, we would need to get inspiration from many different things in order to create something truly unique.

When it IS helpful:

  • If you love some element of a suite you saw (the font, the layout, the color scheme) and want to riff off of it but don’t want to copy it exactly

One more thing: Even though grabbing inspiration from other invitation designs on Pinterest is sometimes helpful, when we design we often don’t even look at other people’s stationery. We would much rather grab from your wedding Pinterest Board than your invitation Pinterest Board. There’s so many ways to find inspiration for invitation design besides invitations (more on that later).

The Most Important Inspiration

Our designs always start with your personality as a couple and where that meets with your intentions for the wedding. A lot of our questions during the Design Call are about this.

So rather than spending hours scouring IG and Pinterest for invitations you like, we’d MUCH rather you go on a date. (Yeah, you heard that right!)

Go on a date and talk about why you’re planning this big wedding in the first place. Talk about how you want to feel, how you want your guests to feel, and what specific moments you keep picturing in your head. What’s the most exciting detail you’ve planned so far?

Also, talk about your relationship and why you love it. Who are you when you’re together? Where are you found on a typical Tuesday night? What’s your go-to date night vibe?

Since we gain so much inspiration from your love (which is the whole point of everything in the first place!), it helps a ton when you can share your personalities with us on the call.

A Sneak Peek at Your Wedding

Besides your personalities, we love designing based on the wedding. This might be a “duh” moment, but we take this so seriously. When we say we design based on your wedding, we don’t just mean colors and drawing your venue. It’s a lot deeper than that.

Why are you having this wedding? How do you want it to feel? What are the most important parts of the day for you? All these deeper intentions tell us a lot about how you want to present your big day to your guests.

We’ll ask a lot about your wedding intentions and will use that to make sure the invitations are doing a great job at telling your guests what kind of event to get excited for.

So if you want to gather more inspo, feel free to share with us all the fun details you’re dreaming up for the big day. Whether you have a few random ideas floating around, or a detailed PDF design deck for every moment of the day, it helps to know all the things that make your event unique.
