How Custom Websites Work

The Design Process

Our design process for the websites are the same as our design process for all other stationery. Usually, we will lump the website design process with the Save the Date process, completing both around the same time.

Weeks beforehand, when you are given the form for the Save the Date wording, we will also give you the form for Website Wording. In this form, we will guide you through each section, and give you the option to add your own wording/images, or to simply customize our wording templates.

Like all our designs, after the general mood board and design plan is right, you will get 3 edit rounds after you receive your proof.

Publishing The Site – Your Options

We have two methods of publishing. Please read to find out the differences between the two to see what you’d prefer. Price-wise, it’s the same. It just depends on your preference!

Option 1: We publish it on our end, so you don’t have to lift a finger.

  • Your domain name will be under ours. So it will look like “exampleweddingdomain.gatespaperco.com”
  • You will pay for publishing (1 year unless you specify) and software up front.
  • If you need to edit the website after publishing:
    • You get to request changes 3 times before the wedding.
    • We will go in and make the changes for you.
  • If you need RSVP capabilities:
    • We will create an RSVPify account for you and set everything up
    • We will then hand you the account information so you can keep track of responses

Option 2: We hand the website completely over to you on a Zoom call, with a quick tutorial on software.

  • Your domain name will be completely custom. Ex. “exampleweddingdomain.com”
  • You will create accounts and pay for subscriptions to the website design platform (Showit), and the RSVP platform (RSVPify) yourself, so you can extend or end your subscriptions whenever you want. We will remove this total from your invoice during booking.
  • We hand the design over to you on a Zoom call, in which we will also teach you how to make your own edits on Showit and how to set up RSVPify (it’s super easy. If you can use Canva, this will be totally fine for you.)
  • If you need to edit the website after publishing:
    • You’ll be able to do so yourself, as many times as you need. (We’re here if you have questions!)
  • If you need RSVP capabilities:
    • You will set up your own RSVPify account, and we’ll help you embed the form into your website.

What is Showit?

It’s our website design platform of choice. It allows us a lot of creative freedom in designing.

The reason why you’ll have to have a Showit account if you choose Option 2 is so that you can go in and make edits whenever you want. We will basically build your website on our account, and then hand the design over to your account so you have full control of it.

What is RSVPify?

Sort of like The Knot, where you can go in and add all your guests and see their responses, etc., except the great thing is that your guests never have to go to a separate website to RSVP.

We will embed the RSVP form (designed to fit the aesthetic, of course!) directly onto your website, so your guests can RSVP directly on your site. No going to an ugly third party site.

Then, you can manage the questions you ask on the form, manage guest info and responses, all on your RSVPify account.
