The Wording Guide

How it Works

Though we are here to guide and advise if needed, ultimately, you (whether it’s the wedding planner or the couple) are in charge of providing all wording for your stationery, website, and other paper goods. No one knows your event like you do.

This means: We don’t check for errors or typos. (Because we might not know that the groom’s middle name has a silent “h”, etc!) What you give us, we design. That’s why in all of our design proofs, we have a section that reminds you to double check that all the information is correct before moving on.

When Do I Need to Provide Wording?

We will always let you know weeks ahead of time. We will also send out a schedule of deadlines early on in our partnership, so you know when to start keeping it in mind.

What if I’m late in submitting? Check out our Deadlines and Boundaries post, here.

How Do I Know What to Write?

Great question! If you are a couple writing your own wording for the first time, it can be overwhelming. We will guide you through each step.

When you get your Wording form, you will have the choice to write you own wording (and don’t worry, we’ll provide a guide for you), or to simply fill out all the information you want included and use our templates.

DON’T STRESS about etiquette!

Here at Gates Paper Co, we could care less what everyone says you should do.

Though we will give you a guide on what information is important and educate you on how things are normally done, it’s just a jumping off point. You know your wedding and you don’t have to follow proper etiquette. Feel free to dress up your wording with your personality.

Think about how you want your wedding to feel. Will it be really classic and formal? Maybe stick to traditional wording and formatting.

For example:

Together with their families,
[Bride’s Full Name] and [Groom’s Full Name]
request the honor of your presence
at their wedding celebration.

[Day of the week], [Date]
at [Time]

[Venue Name]
[Venue Address]

Reception to follow.
Black tie attire requested.

But maybe you want your wedding to be more whimsical or playful.

Think About Your Wedding Vibes

We’ll be setting the tone for the day with your designs, but you can add a lot with wording. For example,

Astrology-Inspired: “Under the Pisces moon, we’ll say yes to forever.”

Italian Villa Vibes: “A Sicilian sunset, a glass of wine, and our favorite people—join us.”

Mystical & Moody: “Where stars align and stories unfold, meet us for the next chapter.”

Have fun with it! When in doubt, feel free to consult ChatGPT (tell it about your wedding and ask it to write your wording for you!), or ask us for help if you’re stuck!
